2 November, Friday Lunchtime Reading Group: Walk a Mile in My Shoes: Research on Role Reversal

Walk a Mile in My Shoes

‘If I could be you, if you could be me for just one hour,

If we could find a way to get inside each other’s mind,

If you could see through my eyes instead of your ego,

I believe you’d be surprised to see that you’ve been blind.

Walk a mile in my shoes, walk a mile in my shoes,

Hey, before you abuse, criticize and accuse,

Walk a mile in my shoes.’ (chorus)

(Joe South, 1970)

Sue Daniel is the moderator for this final Reading Group at PIM for 2018.  She will lead a discussion on aspects of her research on role reversal and subsequent article on same.

Through the research project, I found that role reversal is an effective and economic technique in one-to-one supervision.  The supervisees showed a marked increase in consciousness and demonstrated that they felt more confident and confirmed in themselves and their abilities through role reversal.  They saw themselves and their clients more clearly and understood that not only what they do but also how they are in themselves is integral to their practice as therapists.”
